As I have been using the Script Component\, I have run into some challenges that I imagine many new users of that tool have also encountered. Now I have a love-hate relationship with the Script Component because it still annoys me in certain ways\, but it also makes some transformation steps much easier. In this presentation\, I’ll share what I’ve learned while using the Script Component to do conversion projects pulling data from Excel and Access into SQL Server. If you’re just getting started with SSIS and the Script Component\, this information should save you some time and frustration. And if you’re an old hand at it\, maybe you can help me – and others — overcome those annoying bits.

DESCRIPTION:Session Abstract: \nWhen it comes to getting your data into Excel or Power BI\, M is your best choice. The M Language (A.K.A Power Query) is a powerful tool for self-service data preparation. However\, it’s not clear where it fits compared to tools like SSIS or TSQL. It’s also not clear what it’s limitations are. This session will cover the basics of M and when to use it. In this session\, we’ll demonstrate how M is a linear series of transformations\, just like a set of steps from a recipe. We’ll show how 80% of what you will ever need to do can be done from the GUI. We’ll also talk about how to write custom code for that other 20%. By the end of this presentation\, you’ll be able to take any manual cleanup you do today and turn it into a repeatable process with M.

Since 2009\, this event has benefitted the Little Sisters of the Poor\, which aids the elderly population of Richmond. Last year’s menu featured a “crusty filet of salmon coulibiac with spinach lobster sauce\,” and this years’ impressive line-up of chefs includes Alsace-born Paul Elbling. Is your mouth watering yet?
