At Smart Resources, we aren’t just a big group of IT consultants or tech minds. We’re a family. Our team is not only one of the most skilled in the country, but also one of the most interesting. Each month, we feature a conversation with one of our great consultants so that you can get to know us better. This month, say hello to Consultant, Pete Woods!

Name: Pete Woods

Position: Consultant

Years with Smart Resources: Seven

Professional Background in one sentence: Starting out as a FoxPro developer, I’ve moved into the .NET and SQL Server technologies.

Describe your typical day. I usually start my day off running two to three miles.  It’s been nice doing that again since I recently had knee surgery.  After the run I have breakfast with the kids.  Work consists of various meetings, projects and support.  After work I usually help the kids with their school work or take them to various practices.  I coach soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?  I enjoy figuring out how things work and why things break and then how to fix them.

Tell us about the most memorable moment of your career.  I think the most memorable part of my career is not necessarily a particular moment, but the people that I have met and worked with over the past twenty-five years.

What career advice do you have for someone just starting out in IT? Enjoy the challenges. There will be many.

What will be the biggest tech trend of the next 5 years? Driverless cars

Do you have a favorite software program?  There are a number of times where the project I am working on has an unfamiliar error or I am not sure how to do a certain task.  For those situations I almost always use Google.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the Richmond area? I enjoy taking the family to the Diamond for a ballgame.

Describe your favorite meal. My favorite meal is lasagna.  However, I have a huge sweet tooth that my favorite part of the meal is usually the desert.

What’s your favorite song? David Crowder, How He Loves

Do you have a hidden talent? I was once a decent ultimate Frisbee player.  I haven’t played in a number of years now that my kids have activities and sports of their own.

What’s your favorite thing to drink in the morning? Orange juice or hot chocolate in the winter

The best movie you’ve ever seen is: Lord of the Rings

What’s your most prized possession? My relationship with Jesus
