Getting Smarter with Mark Ludeke

At Smart Resources, we aren’t just a big group of IT consultants or tech minds. We’re a family. Our team is not only one of the most skilled in the country, but also one of the most interesting. Each month, we feature a conversation with one of our great consultants so that you can get to know us better. This month say hello to Windows 10 Migration Technician Mark Ludeke.

Name: Mark Ludeke

Position: Windows 10 Migration Technician

Years with Smart Resources: 5 months

Professional Background in one sentence:

I’ve spent more than 20 years in technology support (predominantly desktop support) in the financial industry.

Describe your typical day:

My days are slightly less exciting lately as I’m mostly backing up user profiles and migrating team members from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

When someone is freaking out over the prospect of change but comes to me at the end of the day to say “thank you” for making the transition so easy and seamless.

Tell us about the most memorable moment of your career.

I was 20… I had only recently started my professional career and was advised to tread lightly around the site’s Admin.  She had a reputation for chewing up and spitting out techs (at least that’s the way I heard it).  I had to go see her boss and while I was nervously sitting there waiting, we started talking.   She reassured me of my skills based off what she had seen and heard.  As that conversation continued, I gained the confidence I needed to keep moving forward and be successful.  More importantly I also gained a friendship that has stayed strong for 20+ years.

What career advice do you have for someone just starting out in IT?

Don’t feel like you have to know everything… it’s ok to use Google.

What will be the biggest tech trend of the next 5 years?

No clue… I honestly don’t follow trends.

Do you have a favorite software program?

I don’t really get too excited over software, but I do seek out OneNote pretty quick when starting a new job.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the Richmond area?

I’m a homebody for the most part, but when the weather turns and festivals start up I look forward to the Irish and Celtic festivals.

Describe your favorite meal:

I could happily live off of steaks, pizza, burgers and hotdogs.

What’s your favorite song?

No favorites.

Do you have a hidden talent?

None at all.

What’s your favorite thing to drink in the morning?

Any soda to get the taste buds working.

The best movie you’ve ever seen is:

I don’t have a favorite, but Marvel has been doing a really good job with their movies lately.

What’s your most prized possession?

My inner circle of close friends.
